Accident at sea
Those who are injured while working at sea have a right to compensation, regardless of the circumstances leading up to the accident. The right to compensation may be available from the insurance company and Sjúkratryggingar Íslands. If you have had an accident, it is important to report the accident as soon as possible to your employer, Sjúkratryggingar Íslands and the relevant insurance company. It is also important to go for a medical examination as soon as possible after the accident. You may be entitled to compensation even if the damage seems minor. It is always advisable to consult with a lawyer as soon as possible.

The process
It is important to report an accident that has occurred as soon as possible so that the right to compensation is not lost. We can help you with that. Afterwards, we assist you in gathering information and data about the damage. When all the data is available, an assessment of the consequences of an accident is carried out, but usually it takes at least one year from the accident until its consequences can be assessed. We help you through the evaluation process. After that, compensation will be settled. Most of the time, an agreement is reached on a compensation settlement and we take care of sending a compensation claim for you. In the event of a dispute regarding the liability for compensation or the amount of compensation, we will take care of seeking a solution by the relevant arbitration committees and/or courts.
